Catalog introduction

Records with a life beyond the release date

Hear for the Music was created to give distinctive music a physical home. Each release is approached as a complete object: the recording, artwork, packaging, and story considered together.

The catalog includes original albums, limited vinyl editions, compact discs, and projects connected to the musical community of Southern California.

About Hear for the Music

A focused imprint built around lasting physical releases

Rod and Tristan

The people behind the catalog

Hear for the Music exists because Rod Shapiro and Tristan Dolce stayed close to the work itself: the recordings, the artwork, the physical editions, and the records worth keeping in circulation.

Hear for the Music is an independent record imprint founded by Rod Shapiro to support the release and presentation of music he believes deserves a lasting physical form.

Working with artists, producers, designers, and independent manufacturers, Hear for the Music has helped bring a focused collection of recordings to vinyl and compact disc.

Today, this website serves as the home of the Hear for the Music catalog: a place to discover the records, learn the stories behind them, and connect with the authorized stores where physical editions remain available.

Rod Shapiro

Rod Shapiro founded Hear for the Music out of a lifelong enthusiasm for records and the people who make them.

After a career building and introducing products to the public, he brought that experience to music, helping artists transform finished recordings into thoughtfully produced physical releases.

Tristan Dolce

Singer-songwriter, producer, and audio engineer Tristan Dolce has worked with Hear for the Music on recording projects, physical releases, artwork, and catalog presentation.

His albums Medium True and Amory & Eleanor are available through the catalog.
